Job Description

MaxFund Animal Adoption Center, the largest No Kill animal shelter in Colorado, is currently accepting nominations to fill open Member-at-Large positions on our Board of Directors . Board terms are two years with the option for renewal. Board of Directors members are voting members responsible for monitoring the financial performance and programs in support of MaxFund’s mission, vision, and values.

Time Commitment & Expectations:

The Board of Directors is a governing board. In addition to attending regularly scheduled meetings at MaxFund in Denver, CO, Board members are expected to attend events and be an active participant in fundraising initiatives. MaxFund by-laws also require an annual financial contribution from Board members.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Understand the Board's fiduciary responsibility to ensure that MaxFund meets its legal,

regulatory, and ethical requirements. 

2. Understand and support the MaxFund mission, bylaws, and policies.

3. Be responsible for the financial wellbeing of MaxFund.

4. Serve as an advocate for MaxFund.

5. Attend scheduled Board meetings, retreats, committee meetings or other Board activities.

6. Support, attend and participate in MaxFund fundraising events.

7 Develop and monitor short-term and long-term planning and goals.

8. Bring one’s personal and professional expertise along with one’s network of others

to support MaxFund’s mission and financial goals.

9. Participate in and/or head one or more Board Committees, if needed.

10. Have a paid up-to-date MaxFund membership. 

Desired Skills:

1. Ability to understand MaxFund’s policies, procedures and fiscal issues so as to effectively support and help advance MaxFund’s goals.

2. Expertise in accounting or auditing principles, marketing, or veterinary medicine are particularly needed, but not required. (All potential candidates are encouraged to apply.)

3. Ability to understand the diverse needs of MaxFund, balancing the love for our animals with the financial realities of running the business.

Nomination Process:

Any individual with the ability and commitment to meet the above expectations may nominate themselves. While a balance of attributes will be sought, the following is a set of guidelines that will be utilized by the Board in evaluating candidates:

1. The candidate’s desire to serve on the Board.

2. Ability/experience to perform the duties as described.

3. Ability to meet or exceed Board expectations.

4. Ability to obtain general knowledge of and participate in MaxFund activities.

5. Prior contributions to MaxFund.

6. Specialized skills, expertise, and vision that will support the Board's direction.

7. Collaborative attitude

8. Contribution to a diverse mix of Board members.
