Job Description

Are you the kind of person who believes work should make life better, not harder? Do you find meaning in going above and beyond for clients and teammates alike and expect the same in return? Are you known for thinking critically, staying humble, and being honest even when it’s hard? If you’re nodding “yes,” you might be the kind of Construction Manager we’re looking for.

At Collected Living Design, we build more than homes—we create curated, real-life beautiful spaces that support well-being and family life. Founded by Laurie Champ and Trent Raines, our team blends interior design with quality remodeling to deliver a seamless experience for clients across the Kansas City area. We’re looking for a Construction Manager who can lead multiple high-end residential remodels at once, keep every detail on track, and bring design visions to life with clarity, care, and accountability.

What We Really Need (The Big 3)

  • Communicate clearly. Keep clients, designers, and subs on the same page.
  • Understand construction. Know the remodeling process end-to-end so you can see around corners.
  • Juggle & prioritize. Manage 4–5 jobs at a time, keep schedules moving, and focus on what’s critical now vs. what is coming next.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run day-to-day operations on kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and whole main-floor remodels.
  • Coordinate scopes, schedules, and selections with design and field crews.
  • Lead site meetings, trade walks, and quality checks.
  • Track budgets and change orders, ensuring designers are looped in on all client decisions.
  • Close jobs cleanly, managing punch lists, trade coordination, and client sign-off.

Must-Haves (Skills, Not Years)

  • Deep understanding of general construction practices, trades, building codes, order of operations, and means & methods.
  • Confidence reading plans and details and turning design intent into executable steps.
  • Calm, direct communicator—written and verbal—with clients and trades.
  • Organized and proactive: builds checklists, anticipates bottlenecks, and follows through.
  • Comfort with email and digital tools and a willingness to embrace technology rather than avoid it.

What Gets Us Excited (Nice-to-Haves)

  • You know how to create happy clients—from demo to final walk-through.
  • You know the challenges of finishing punch lists efficiently, and feel confident in your ability to end on a high note
  • You can build a strong network of qualified subs and know how to match the right crew to the right task.
  • You nurture loyal trade relationships while holding a high bar for execution.

Our Company Culture (People First)

We’re not your typical construction company. We’re collaborative, friendly, and relationship-driven. We take care of our clients and we take care of each other. Professional, yes—but never robotic. We value authenticity over ego, and we’re not afraid to ask good questions, challenge assumptions, and prioritize people over processes.

Our Immutable Laws

  • We create beautiful spaces where memories are made.
  • We go above and beyond in our work and client relationships.
  • We’re proactive and honest in work and communication.
  • We stick to our boundaries (healthy clients, healthy teams, healthy schedules).
  • We think critically—don’t be a robot; ask good questions.
  • Work exists to make our lives better.
  • People first.
  • Keep it real—authenticity is important.
  • Be selfless—work for the good of others; be excited for everyone.
  • Be humble—always willing to take input.

Why Join Us?

At Collected Living Design, you’re not just joining a company; you’re joining a family of passionate professionals who love what they do. We focus on relationships, craftsmanship, and balance. Your ability to communicate and connect with people is just as important as your technical skill.

Think this sounds like your kind of team? Apply now and tell us why.
