Job Description

Job Opportunity: Construction Technician 1

We are seeking a Construction Technician 1 to join our team and perform construction inspections on a variety of Power Generation projects in the Greater Philadelphia, PA area. The candidate will be responsible for interpreting specifications and construction drawings, evaluating site conditions based on soil and rock samples, monitoring and reporting on construction activities, and performing field testing of soils and concrete. The successful candidate will be expected to provide documentation of construction progress through daily reports, status reports, and other forms of data reporting.

Job Duties:

  • Evaluate site conditions based on soil and rock samples.

  • Monitor and report on construction activities.

  • Perform field testing of soils and concrete.

Job Requirements:

  • 0-5 years of construction experience with earthwork, foundation inspection, test boring inspection, and concrete testing, or a Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with Nuclear Density Gauge Testing, ACI Grade 1 Certification, and OSHA 10-hour Training is preferred.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time daily, mostly within Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with occasional travel to Virginia.

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, perform physically demanding work, and lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs routinely.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact well with other staff and communicate effectively with clients and field representatives.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to safety procedures.

General Characteristics:

  • Developing advanced field operations skills.

  • Proficient in computer skills.

  • Good visual and hearing skills.

  • Flexibility with work hours and willingness to travel up to 100% during weekdays and occasional weekends.

  • Ability to lead tasks and work independently or lead crews when necessary.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Driver's License required.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Review plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites.

  • Conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used in determining physical properties of construction materials.

  • Collect soil, asphalt, and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.

  • Document field activities, observations, and testing results on projects.

  • Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes, and standards.

  • Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports, and technical drawings.

  • Communicate field and laboratory testing results with staff, contractors, and clients.

  • Ability to interact well with other staff, communicate effectively with clients and field representatives.

  • Motivational skills and the ability to function positively in a team environment.

  • Ability to keep teams working harmoniously.
