The Office of Inspector General has a vacancy. This job title has an assigned pay grade of PS-115.

This vacancy will be filled by new hire or by promotion of a current permanent status classified employee.

Statement of Responsibility: This position is responsible for serving as a member of a team of criminal investigators and state auditors that looks into alleged violations of criminal laws and administrative and regulatory provisions; this position also works with other state, local, and federal agencies to fully investigate complaints and allegations.

State of Preference: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in criminal investigation, financial crimes, surveillance, and handling of confidential information.

A criminal history check may be conducted on all new hires as well as employees changing positions including promotions, demotions, details, reassignments and transfers. Also, prospective employees may be subject to pre-employment drug testing. New hires will be subject to employment eligibility verification via the federal government's E-verify system.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of experience in investigatory work while employed as a commissioned law enforcement officer plus one of the following:

Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR

Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from other related investigative jobs by specialization intelligence gathering, or assignment to a federal task force with a law enforcement purpose, or assignment to conduct highly sensitive or complex investigations requiring the application of advanced investigative techniques.

Differs from the Criminal Investigator 1 and 2 by the presence of complex performance duties at the advanced level.

Investigates violations of state criminal laws, conducts administrative investigations and investigations of regulatory violations enforced by the department through statute.

Gathers evidence, prepares warrants, and effects arrests.

Conducts undercover operations, assumes undercover roles, and conducts physical and technical surveillance.

Prepares necessary reports on investigations.

Makes physical arrests and transports fugitives.

Performs background investigations.
