Job Description

Director of Experience Design (Transformative Design)

Soul Seated Journey | Remote (Pacific/Mountain Time Zones, Bay Area Preferred)

About Soul Seated Journey

Soul Seated Journey is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit pioneering evidence-based pathways to human flourishing by integrating contemplative wisdom, compassion science, and technology-enabled transformative practices for emerging adults. We uniquely bridge Buddhist principles and other wisdom traditions with rigorous research to create a tech-enabled hybrid delivery model that makes profound personal transformation accessible, measurable, and scalable beyond traditional wellness approaches.

The Opportunity

As Director of Transformative Design, you'll architect the experience model that translates our integration of contemplative wisdom and scientific research into tangible transformation journeys. This pivotal leadership role is one of three complementary director positions that form our foundational, interdisciplinary approach to human development. You'll collaborate closely with the Directors of Applied Spirituality and Compassion Science to create experiences that catalyze profound personal growth across multiple dimensions of wellbeing.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the architectural vision for our transformation journeys, designing the blueprint for how emerging adults progress through measurable stages of growth
  •  Create immersive learning experiences that translate contemplative insights into accessible practices that drive meaningful personal change.
  • Develop sophisticated measurement frameworks that track transformation across spiritual, emotional, and social dimensions.
  • Design our tech-enabled hybrid delivery model, ensuring both digital accessibility and in-person depth.
  • Build and lead a design team that continuously refines our transformative methodology based on evidence and participant experiences.

Who You Are

Beyond skills and experience, we're seeking a proven leader whose personal values align with our mission—someone who brings compassion, self-discipline, and heart-led innovation to everything they create.

  • A Transformation Architect who designs experiences that catalyze profound personal growth rather than simply maintaining equilibrium
  • A Compassionate Systems Thinker who sees connections between individual flourishing and broader social impact
  • A Research-Driven Designer who grounds creative decisions in evidence while honoring wisdom traditions
  • A Principles-Informed Innovator who translates contemplative wisdom into accessible modern pathways
  • A Strategic Doer who can both envision transformative models and implement them with precision.
  • -A Kind-Hearted Leader of high integrity who builds psychologically safe environments where innovation thrives, authenticity is valued, and approaches work with humility and genuine care for others.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Required Experience:

  • 8+ years progressive experience in service design, experience design, or human-centered innovation
  • At least 3+ years in leadership positions
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's in Design, HCI, or related field preferred
  • Background in designing hybrid (digital + in-person) experiences
  • Experience with qualitative research and measurement frameworks

Highly Desired Experience:

  • 10+ years total design experience
  • Experience in wellness, education, human flourishing or personal development sectors
  • Track record of building high-performing design teams
  • Experience designing for behavior change and personal transformation
  • Understanding of contemplative practices and their application to modern contexts

Why Join Our Journey:

  • Be part of pioneering a new approach to human flourishing that combines ancient wisdom with scientific rigor
  • Work in a collaborative, non-toxic environment with kind-hearted colleagues who prioritize integrity and compassion
  • Help shape an evidence-based methodology that creates measurable transformation in emerging adults' lives
  • Join a team that values your whole self—personal growth, professional development, and wellbeing

Compensation & Work Arrangement:

  • Salary range: $105,000-$135,000 (Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors including qualifications, experience, geographic location, and external market comparables)
  • Comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees
  • Initially remote with preference for Bay Area candidates, but open to exceptional talent in Pacific/Mountain time zones
  • Future transition to hybrid (office + remote) as our team grows
  • Travel requirements: Quarterly team meetings in the Bay Area and occasional on-site research/client visits
