Job Description

Nemko is an international electro-technical compliance company specializing in testing, inspection and certification services concerning products, machinery, installations, and systems worldwide.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer for EMC Test Engineer position in our Austin, Texas location. You will perform EMC testing to meet overall laboratory needs but knowledge of MIL and Auto is preferred. This includes writing EMC test plans, performing actual hands-on EMC testing, and documenting final results in a formal report in accordance with both domestic and international EMC test standards.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Validate the project scope and sample applicability.

Under scope of the project, identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing.

Follow established test plan.

Set-up and operate EUT, perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.

Perform testing of products in accordance with standards.

Engage in problem solving activities to address product failure/non-compliance issues.

Develop test methods to comply with both regulatory test standards and customer specifications. This will also include automating these test methods to improve laboratory efficiency and accuracy.

Develop and improve laboratory operational procedures and technical procedures to expand our ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Following sample handling procedures, ensure that sample is logged into and out of the system, and move equipment as needed through the facility.

Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing. Provide ongoing support to clients as needed.

Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters.

Carrying out testing and other activities related to assigned projects according to the Nemko standard of project management.

The ability to work within deadlines.

A comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulations and the standards.

Responsibility to ensure that the work is verified by a verifier.

Confident decision-making and the ability to explain ideas and plans clearly.

Work according to the current guidelines and requirements for Quality Assurance.

Contribute to any actions initiated to create a safe working environment.

Use all laboratory equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with Nemko protocols.

Work according to the current guidelines and requirements for Quality Assurance as described in Quality Manual, C300-manual and other relevant documentation.

Senior Engineers with a segment specialty shall:

Contribute/assess project engineers within the Nemko NGV scheme.

Tutor and mentor project engineers.

Contribute to seminars for knowledge sharing for Nemko and Nemko’s customers.

Experience:

MIL STD DO160, 461 standards experience

SAE J1113 standard experience

DNVGL-CG-0339 experience

EN 60945 experience

And any commercial standard experience such as IEC/EN 60601-1-2, IEC/EN 61326-1

3 years directly related professional experience preferred

Experience with U.S., Canadian, and International standards a plus

Work experience in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory is preferable

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Thorough understanding of test standards (both domestic and international)

Strong problem-solving skills

Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)

EDUCATION:

Post-secondary degree/diploma in electrical engineering or equivalent plus directly related work history in a compliance testing environment.
