Job Title: Fire Alarm Technician - Second Shift (Sunday-Thursday 3:00PM-11:30PM)

Type: 6 month Contract-to-Hire

Location: On-Site – Orlando, FL

Overview

We are seeking a Fire Alarm Technician to support facilities operations for a large campus environment. This role is essential to ensuring safety and compliance by maintaining, repairing, and servicing fire alarm systems across multiple buildings. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other skilled trades.

The Opportunity

As a Fire Alarm Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining life safety systems across a large, multi-building site. You’ll respond to service calls, perform preventative maintenance, assist with inspections and compliance checks, and coordinate with contractors and internal teams to ensure all fire alarm systems operate safely and within code. This is a hands-on, on-site role that may include on-call responsibilities as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to fire alarm and sprinkler system alerts, diagnose root causes, and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Collaborate with other trades and escort contractors during inspections or scheduled maintenance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and limited repairs in accordance with state and local fire codes.
  • Conduct field inspections, surveys, and data collection to improve system performance and recommend upgrades.
  • Inspect contractor installations to ensure code compliance and adherence to site standards.
  • Use the Integrated Work Management System (IWMS) or similar platforms to manage and document work orders, materials, and corrective actions.
  • Prioritize and respond promptly to life safety and urgent work orders.
  • Participate in project planning and coordinate area closures or utility shutdowns as needed.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks and participate in departmental audit and safety programs.
  • Support other facility operations teams during emergencies or staff shortages, and may serve as acting lead when required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least 2 years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Ability to read and interpret fire alarm schematics, wiring diagrams, and applicable codes.
  • Familiarity with fire alarm control panels, sprinkler systems, and related components.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and evening or weekend work as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing fire alarm systems.
  • NICET Level I certification in Fire Alarm Systems (or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and NFPA 25 codes.
  • Experience using Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) or similar maintenance platforms.
  • Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve fire safety system issues.
  • Experience working in large-scale facilities, higher education, or commercial environments.
