Job Description



Positions Summary

The Income Tax Accountant will be responsible for managing the company's income tax compliance processes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and local departments of revenue. This role requires an in-depth understanding of tax compliance, tax filings, intercompany eliminations, and deferred tax assets and liabilities. The successful candidate will ensure timely filing of tax returns, manage tax-related audits, and stay informed about federal, state, and local tax code changes.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Yearly Responsibilities :

  • Provide income tax provisions to external auditors for financial statement reporting.
  • Extract and analyze data to build supporting workpapers for preparation of income tax returns by external tax preparers.
  • Review, maintain, and ensure timely filing of income, excise, franchise, business license, gross receipts, and CAT tax returns.
  • Process payments for balance dues and refunds related to tax filings.
  • Update and maintain income tax accruals and true-ups for prior year expenses.
  • Maintain carryforward schedules for Net Operating Losses (NOLs), credits, interest expense limitations, charitable contributions, and deferred capital loss carryforwards.

Quarterly Responsibilities:

  • Calculate, set up, and pay federal, state, and local estimated tax payments.
  • Prepare and submit combined Ohio and Oregon CAT tax returns.

Monthly Responsibilities :

  • Review and reconcile income tax accounts, including federal and local income tax accruals, deferred tax assets and liabilities, M-item expenses, and refund receivables.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of parent company's ownership percentages in affiliated and non-affiliated members.
  • Manage desk audits and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Respond to notices and inquiries from taxing authorities.

Minimum

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or advanced tax certification preferred.
  • Ongoing tax education and training to stay current with changes in tax law.
