Job Description

As an Inpatient Coding Specialist , you will be responsible for assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes for complex inpatient encounters. You'll collaborate closely with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), Health Information Management (HIM), and Revenue Cycle teams to ensure data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.



Inpatient Coding Specialist Responsibilities:

• Review and accurately code inpatient charts using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
• Abstract clinical data and ensure accurate DRG assignment
• Maintain productivity and quality standards in alignment with department expectations
• Communicate with CDI and other departments to clarify documentation as needed
• Adhere to official coding guidelines and organizational policies

Inpatient Coding Specialist Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of inpatient coding experience required
• Active AHIMA or AAPC certification (CCS, RHIT, or CPC-H preferred)
• Strong knowledge of coding guidelines, DRG validation, and documentation standards
• Prior experience with EPIC, 3M Encoder, or Meditech preferred
• Excellent attention to detail, time management, and analytical skills
