Organics Laboratory Manager

📍 Albany, NY | 💼 Full-Time, On-Site | 💰 $70,000–$110,000 (Based on Experience)

On behalf of our client, a well-established environmental laboratory based in Albany, we are seeking an experienced Organics Laboratory Manager to lead and optimize daily operations within their organics testing department. This is a full-time, on-site leadership role ideal for a hands-on, technically proficient manager who thrives in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.

Position Overview

The Organics Laboratory Manager will oversee environmental sample preparation and analysis across a variety of matrices, including drinking water, wastewater, sludge, soil, air, and construction materials. This role combines technical expertise with leadership, requiring a deep understanding of laboratory instrumentation and EPA analytical methods.

The successful candidate will manage a team of analysts and technicians, coordinate workflows to meet regulatory and client deadlines, and serve as a key liaison between laboratory departments and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily laboratory operations to ensure timely and accurate analysis
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate lab staff performance
  • Troubleshoot analytical methods and instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS/MS)
  • Coordinate sample flow to meet turnaround time and hold time requirements
  • Collaborate with other departments including purchasing, QA, and executive leadership
  • Maintain laboratory compliance with EPA methods and safety regulations
  • Monitor and manage consumables inventory and vendor relationships

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Laboratory Manager or senior analytical chemist ready for a leadership role
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • Hands-on expertise with instruments such as GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and HPLC
  • Familiarity with EPA methods including (but not limited to): 8260, 8270, 8081, 8082, 524, 552, 1664, 1633
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory information systems and QA/QC protocols

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $70,000–$110,000, commensurate with experience
  • Benefits include: 401(k), health and dental insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan
  • Standard Monday–Friday schedule (8:00 AM–5:00 PM); limited overtime
