Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Plumbing Designer to lead the design and coordination of plumbing and mechanical systems across a variety of building types, including civic, education, transportation, and commercial projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a collaborative mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design process from concept through construction documents
  • Develop plumbing system layouts using Revit and AutoCAD
  • Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and energy analysis
  • Coordinate with architects, structural, electrical, and civil engineers
  • Review and mark up shop drawings and submittals
  • Mentor junior designers and engineers
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sustainability goals
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations as needed

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical design for buildings
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP)
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and LEED principles
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • PE license preferred, but not required

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience managing plumbing design projects from schematic design through construction.

Technical Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of plumbing codes and standards (IPC, UPC, NFPA, ASPE).
  • Familiarity with sustainable plumbing design (LEED, WELL, water conservation strategies).
  • Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and plumbing-specific tools (e.g., HASS, Pipe Flow Expert).
  • Strong understanding of MEP coordination and technical documentation.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead engineering staff.
  • Strong project management skills: budgeting, scheduling, task management, and quality control.
  • Collaborative mindset with clients, consultants, and internal teams.

Communication

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting to clients and participating in business development efforts.
