Job Description

Principal Data & Industry Insights Analyst

About The National Mining Association:

America’s mining industry supplies the essential materials necessary for nearly every sector of our economy – from technology and healthcare to energy, transportation, infrastructure, and national security.

The National Mining Association (NMA) is the only national trade organization that serves as the voice of the U.S. mining industry and the hundreds of thousands of American workers it employs before Congress, the federal agencies, the judiciary and the media, advocating for public policies that will help America fully and responsibly utilize its vast natural resources. We work to ensure America has secure and reliable supply chains, abundant and affordable energy, and the American-sourced materials necessary for U.S. manufacturing and economic security, all delivered under world-leading environmental, safety and labor standards.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a forward-thinking  Principal Data & Industry Insights Analyst to lead the development, research and dissemination of statistical and industry information that supports the association’s advocacy and communications efforts. This role blends traditional data analysis ( e.g. employment data tracking, industry production monitoring, commodities price analysis, state-by-state data comparisons), with modern AI-driven tools to deliver high-impact insights, publications, and decision support for members, internal stakeholders, government partners and media.

Responsibilities:

· Data Collection & Research: Use advanced analytics tools and AI-powered platforms to gather and analyze industry data from internal and external sources, including member companies, commodity markets, government databases, market research platforms and real-time feeds.

· Insight Generation & Reporting: Develop high-quality statistical reports and publications, leveraging AI for trend detection, forecasting and data visualization. Translate complex data into clear insights tailored for diverse audiences.

· Member-Focused Publications: Produce regular data-driven publications and dashboards valued by the association’s membership and ensure current external data sources are kept up to date.

· Research: Respond to requests from association staff, members, media and government agencies to quickly extract reliable, relevant data.

· AI-Assisted Report Development: Utilize AI tools to quickly generate insightful, external source publications.

· Thought Leadership: Write monthly articles for the membership newsletter focused on economic trends, industry forecasts and data-backed insights. Utilize generative AI tools to draft and refine content efficiently.

· Government & Industry Relations: Serve as a liaison to federal and state agencies and partner organizations that produce or consume industry-related statistical data. Collaborate on shared initiatives, ensure data alignment and advocate for the industry’s analytical needs.

· Digital Data Presence: Oversee and regularly update the statistical content on the association’s website. Use AI to automate updates, enhance user experience, and ensure data accuracy and relevance where possible.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree; preferred in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Public Policy or a related field.

· 5+ years of experience in data analysis, industry research or economic reporting

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data clearly to non-technical audiences.

· Proficiency with various tools (Microsoft Excel and Access, WordPress, Google Analytics, Adobe InDesign, etc.) and BI platforms (Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, etc.).

· Experience with or strong interest in AI/ML tools and platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, DataRobot, AWS AI services).

· Knowledge of public policy and regulatory environments.

Physical Demands:

· This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) more than half the time

· The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) less than 15 lbs.

· This position requires the ability to spend most of the time viewing computer monitors.
