Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, development-focused Project Manager/Scrum Master with a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) Scrum certification. The selected individual will play a pivotal role in leading and supporting Agile software development initiatives for a cutting-edge green building application, ensuring alignment with best practices in both software development and green building standards .

This position requires a balance of strategic oversight with day-to-day execution, engaging effectively with both technical and business stakeholders, and ensuring a seamless flow of requirements from vision through delivery.

Responsibilities

Agile Leadership & Team Support

  • Serve as the primary Scrum Master for the development team, facilitating Scrum events (Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives) and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the team adheres to Agile principles , managing disruptions and removing impediments that affect team efficiency.

Impediment Removal

  • Proactively identify and resolve any obstacles hindering the development team’s progress, leveraging your technical background to address technical impediments.

ADO Board Configuration and Maintenance

  • Manage and configure the Azure DevOps (ADO) Boards, customizing work item types, workflows, and Kanban boards to align with team processes.
  • Establish and maintain a well-organized backlog structure for effective work management.

Sprint Planning and Tracking

  • Facilitate Sprint Planning using ADO Boards , creating sprints, defining sprint goals, and tracking progress throughout the sprint.
  • Monitor burndown charts, velocity, and other key metrics to keep the sprint on track.

Reporting and Analytics

  • Leverage ADO ’s reporting features and integrate with Power BI to generate progress reports, track key metrics (e.g., sprint progress, resource burndown, work item cycle time), and provide data-driven insights to stakeholders.
  • Design custom dashboards to visualize project health and team performance, automating reporting where possible.

Requirements Management

  • Manage project requirements through ADO Boards , ensuring they are clearly defined, prioritized, and tracked throughout the development lifecycle.

Development Coordination & Technical Oversight

  • Utilize your development background to guide developers in understanding user stories, technical requirements, and best coding practices.
  • Collaborate closely with the development team to ensure all stories are properly estimated, understood, and ready for sprint execution.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact for business sponsors, architects, and end-users, translating technical requirements into business language and vice versa.
  • Provide clear and concise project updates, ensuring stakeholders remain informed of scope, timelines, and potential obstacles.

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with QA and the business team to plan user acceptance testing (UAT), validate functionalities, and incorporate feedback.
  • Facilitate retrospective meetings to capture lessons learned, share insights, and improve processes for subsequent sprints.

Skills Required

  • SAFe Scrum certification (or comparable Agile certification) with demonstrable experience leading Agile teams in a software development environment.
  • Proven software development background (e.g., experience as a developer or technical lead) to effectively guide and support an engineering team.
  • Understanding of building science, energy, and embodied carbon calculations , plus familiarity with green building standards is highly desirable.
  • Ability to translate business and technical requirements into user stories and epics, leveraging tools like Azure DevOps .
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and stakeholders concurrently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and stakeholder alignment.
  • Familiarity with building information modeling (BIM) tools and energy modeling software .
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) , a plus.
  • Building Science or Sustainable Building certifications (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, WELL ), a plus.
