Role Summary

Internship Term:

Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2025 through May 2027.

This intern will work on t hermal and structural simulations for low voltage electrical hardware mechanical design and development activities. Projects will involve developing and/or automating new simulation workflow around electronics cooling and structural design of vehicle electronics including risks associated with electrical integration ( e.g. harness loads).

Responsibilities

  • Developing n ew simulation and automation workflows for FEA and meshless models.
  • Workflows will focus on thermal simulations, structural (including Assembly, Shock, Vibrations, Durability), and topology optimization.
  • Python/ Matlab scripting for reading model inputs from CAD, model setup, post-processing, and model calibration/verification from test data.


Qualifications

  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters, or PhD degree at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
  • Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in Engineering.
  • Knowledge of advanced solid mechanics and strength of materials.
  • Ability to create reduced order models from first principles.
  • Finite element analysis (FEA) - Knowledge of practical tools for pre-processing, solving, and post-processing.
  • Python/ Matlab scripting skills .
  • Experience with Abaqus (with Python scripting) preferred.
  • Experience with Data analysis in regression, neural networks, and reduced order models preferred.
  • Familiar with ANSA/Altair tools ( Simlab , Hyperworks ) for pre-processing, preferred.
  • Familiar with META/Altair tools ( Hyperworks ) for post-processing, preferred.
  • M ust be enrolled in the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
  • Must be located in Champaign, IL and able to work out of our office in the Research Park.
  • Must be available for 20 hours per week in the Fall and Spring and 40 hours in the summer. 
  • This project will require weekly task status update and monthly project update.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Internships : The range of pay for internships is 25.00-51.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on location, and other factors permitted by law.

Rivian provides robust wellness benefits, and a medical insurance package for interns, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
