About the Company - Birchmont Transport, LLC is a trucking company that is a sister company of Custom Processing Services, Inc. (CPS). The company currently operates 4 tractors and 18 trailers and receives support from CPS in accounting, HR, and inventory.

Job Description-

The Trucking Transportation and Warehouse Manager is responsible for thoughtfully managing and growing the business of Birchmont Transport, LLC trucking company, which currently includes the operations of 4 tractors and 18 trailers. This includes managing the P&L and Balance Sheet.In its current size, the responsibilities also include the hands on tasks of safety, driver management, equipment management, client services and business development. Birchmont Transport is a sister company of Custom Processing Services, Inc. (CPS) and CPS and its customers are the current primary customers of Birchmont Transport. Birchmont Transport also has available to it accounting, HR, and inventory support from CPS.

This position would also eventually assume the operations and profitability 107,000 square feet of offsite warehouses and potentially the 60,000 square feet of manufacturing warehouses.

Fleet Management:

  • Oversee the company’s fleet of trucks and vehicles, ensuring they are properly maintained, insured, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Confirm regular maintenance and inspection schedule for all vehicles are being performed.
  • Ensure all trucks meet federal and state transportation regulations.

Driver Supervision:

  • Hire, train, and manage drivers, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols, company policies, and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Monitor driver performance and safety compliance, addressing issues promptly.
  • Schedule and assign routes, ensuring timely deliveries while optimizing fuel consumption and travel times.
  • Perform routine staff reviews

Logistics & Scheduling:

  • Plan and optimize daily delivery routes and schedules for maximum efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with dispatch teams to manage schedules, delays, and any emergency changes in transportation.
  • Implement and maintain tracking systems to monitor deliveries and ensure on-time performance.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including driver hours of service, vehicle inspections, and weight restrictions.
  • Through Samsara, verify all necessary documentation and certifications required by law.
  • With third party assistance, conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments, enforcing safe driving practices among drivers.

Budgeting & Cost Control:

  • Develop and manage Birchmont Transport’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Monitor fuel consumption, driver efficiency, and vehicle maintenance costs, implementing strategies to minimize expenses.
  • When necessary, negotiate rates with third-party carriers and suppliers for cost-effective services.

Customer Service & Communication:

  • Maintain strong relationships and attend meetings with the CPS group and third party customers, ensuring transportation services meet their needs.
  • Address all customer inquiries and resolve any transportation-related issues promptly.
  • Provide regular updates to customers on delivery status and any potential delays.
  • Extend and execute agreements with new and prospective customers.

Technology & Innovation:

  • Implement and manage transportation management systems (as Birchmont uses Samsara) and other logistics software.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements that could improve fleet management and operational efficiency

Required Skills-

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
  • Knowledge of transportation software, GPS, and fleet management tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and analyze operational performance
  • Knowledge with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of a fleet trucking transportation company.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT Safety knowledge (i.e. logs, hours of service, etc.)
  • Proven success developing new and existing client base
  • Knowledge of P&L and Balance Sheets
  • Proficient in MS office, and Outlook.
