**_What Medical Administration and Data contributes to Cardinal Health_**
Business & Administrative Support is responsible for assisting general business operations by providing an array of administrative and data support activities.
**Purpose:**
The Scribe position is responsible for assisting the physician in accurately documenting and transcribing interactions between the patient and physician. The position works collaboratively with nursing and clerical staff to maintain efficient patient flow and performs other patient-related tasks as assigned by the physician. Also works to be personal and professional assistant to offer personalized support to the physician.
**Responsibilities/Essential Functions (other duties as assigned):**
+ Accompanies physician into the patient examination room, in order to transcribe a history and physical examination as given by the patient and physician, including proper charting of the examination and recommendations for treatment.
+ Under direction of the physician, transcribes patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests.
+ Documents any procedures performed by the physician, in the electronic medical record.
+ Transcribes any consultations or discussions with family and/or the patient's private physician or referring physician.
+ Completes the patient's electronic record by transcribing results of any lab's, x-rays, or other evaluations. Continuously checks on the progress of the data in order to assist the physician in decision making regarding the patient's care and treatment.
+ Lists all proper diagnosis as well as any follow-up instructions and prescriptions, as dictated by the physician.
+ Documents any physician orders relate to patient care and ensures follow-through of pending items.
+ Assists physician with any other duties related to patient care as instructed.
+ Works collaboratively with nursing and clerical staff to maintain efficient patient flow. Notifies appropriate staff members if physician schedule is impacted by urgent patient matters or precludes physician from remaining on schedule.
+ Manages physician template to ensure good patient flow and productivity.
+ Coaches and trains new scribes.
**Experience, Qualifications/Education:**
+ High School Diploma or GED required.
+ Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited educational institution or a minimum of 2 years' experience being a Medical Assistant
+ Current CPR certification required
+ Knowledge of computer/telephony support, preferably in a health care environment
+ Strong customer service background, preferably in health care environment
+ Excellent verbal communication skills
+ Competence with computer processing functions and other standard office equipment
+ Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
+ Ability to calmly and professionally resolve customer issues with diplomacy and tact
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
+ Strong organizational skills
**Working Conditions:**
+ This position functions primarily indoors in a medical / business environment. Employee may be subject to blood borne pathogens, radiation, bio waste and other medically-related factors, with exposure to moderate noise levels.
+ Visual acuity to read and compute screen and paper documents; close and distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus; hearing acuity to converse with staff and customers; ability to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and lift and move 25 pounds on a regular basis; ability to sit for hours at a time **.** Employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels, interruptions, and occasionally asked to work evening and weekends as needed.
**Pay rate:** $23.00 per hour
