Job Description
Our client, a prestigious Am Law 100 firm, is seeking a Conflicts Department Senior Researcher to join their Risk & Compliance team. This role plays a key part in supporting the Office of the General Counsel and Conflicts/New Business Intake Department by conducting legal research and analysis related to conflicts of interest, ethics, and professional responsibility matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct in-depth research on corporations, agencies, and individuals using both internal and external databases to verify information.
Maintain and update corporate hierarchies (family trees) in conflicts and billing databases.
Analyze conflicts reports and reference data to identify potential or actual conflicts of interest for new engagements and lateral hires.
Communicate findings and recommendations to attorneys and staff, advising on conflict resolution steps.
Collaborate with department leadership and the Office of the General Counsel on complex or high-risk conflicts matters.
Track and log research findings, resolution notes, and supporting documentation.
Research mergers, acquisitions, and bankruptcies; enter relevant findings into conflicts databases.
Address "thrust-upon" conflicts issues and propose actionable resolutions.
Lead and assist on special research projects as needed.
Required Skills & Attributes:
Advanced organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a high-volume environment.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Professional interpersonal skills; able to interact diplomatically across all levels of the firm.
Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential client and firm information.
Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience mentoring junior staff and leading small project groups.
Excellent customer service orientation.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree strongly preferred (may substitute with 4+ years of relevant experience).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in conflicts research or related roles within a law firm or professional services setting.
Proficient in conflicts databases and legal research tools; experience with Intapp Open is preferred.
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with research methodologies.
