Job Opportunity: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Inpatient

Location: Charleston, SC (Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System)

Employment Type: Full-Time / Federal Contract

Setting: Inpatient (Med/Surg and Psychiatric Units)

We are hiring Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to provide direct care and support to U.S. Veterans. This is a local-only contract position in Charleston, SC, focused on providing high-quality assistance in an acute care setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care: Perform hygiene care, feeding, lifting, turning, and mobility assistance.
• Clinical Support: Take and record vital signs (BP, pulse, temp, pulse oximetry) and blood sugar levels.
• Procedures: Perform EKGs and assist physicians with diagnostic examinations like biopsies and lumbar punctures.
• Safety Monitoring: Act as a 1:1 Patient Safety Partner for high-risk patients and recognize changes in behavioral conditions.
• Technical Tasks: Manage condom and indwelling Foley catheters and provide care for patients using oxygen masks or cannulas.
• Documentation: Fully utilize the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) for all medical recording.

Required Qualifications

• Education/Certification: Valid CNA certification and current BLS.
• Experience: Previous experience in an inpatient or acute care setting (Med/Surg or Psych preferred).
• Skills: Proficiency in measuring intake/output, specimen collection, and basic computer literacy.
• Language: Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Professionalism: Ability to maintain conduct that supports facility operations and patient safety.

Schedule & Shift Information

• Shift Length: 12.5-hour shifts to ensure continuity of care.
• Day Shift: 0730 – 2000.
• Night Shift: 1930 – 0800.
• Requirements: Coverage includes weekdays, weekends, and federal holidays. Alternating weekend shifts are required for Psychiatric unit assignments.
