Job Description

We are partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization to identify their next Executive Director. This role offers the opportunity to lead a well-established, statewide organization focused on improving health outcomes for children through strong community partnerships and accessible care.

The Executive Director will work closely with an engaged Board of Trustees to shape the organization’s strategic direction, lead a dedicated team, and ensure long-term sustainability.

The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with strong business acumen, proven experience securing strategic partnerships and funding, and a passion for improving the lives of underserved communities. This is a unique opportunity to drive impact at scale while leading a committed and collaborative team.

This role is on-site in Columbia, SC with some travel throughout the state.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic plan in collaboration with the Board and senior leadership team.
  • Serve as a passionate ambassador of the organization’s mission, vision, and values to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote and lead with the cultural values of compassion, courage, respect, collaboration and justice across the organization.
  • Maximize staff performance, teamwork and collaboration
  • Cultivate and pursue innovative partnerships with healthcare providers, schools, nonprofits, government entities, and philanthropic organizations to expand mission impact and funding.

Operations Management

  • Oversee all programs and services across the four regions, ensuring effectiveness and alignment with community needs.
  • Supervise, support, and empower a diverse and talented team across South Carolina.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and practices.
  • Oversee corporate staff focused on the organization’s foundation of fund development, marketing and data and evaluation.
  • Ensure effective integration of grant-funded programs into operations, including compliance with grant requirements and accurate reporting.

Finance & Administration

  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and reporting with strong fiscal discipline and transparency.
  • Work with the Board Finance Committee to monitor organizational performance and sustainability.
  • Lead the organization with strong financial stewardship, leveraging business acumen to identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

Board Engagement

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Trustees, supporting Governance, Executive Team, Finance, and Development.
  • Provide timely and accurate information for strategic decision-making.
  • Engage and utilize the Board of Trustees to further the mission.

Job Specifications

  • Commitment to the mission, vision and core values of the organization.
  • A visionary who sees the big picture and can conceptualize new and innovative ways to serve children across South Carolina.
  • Advanced understanding of social determinants of health, root causes of poverty and complex community systems.
  • Ability to coach, motivate, inspire and lead staff.
  • Ability to multi-task while dealing with complex materials and situations.
  • Ability to think critically and strategize creatively with internal and external stakeholders to increase mission impact.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • A strong fundraising background with proven success.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with elementary-aged children specifically and all school-age children generally.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.S. In Public Health, Health Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 8-10 years of experience working in some facet of public health or a related field including public education.
  • Experience managing complex budgets, interpreting financial statements, and aligning financial planning with strategic goals.
  • Background in building partnerships, cultivating donors, or driving business development in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Recognized as a leader in the nonprofit sector.
  • Have the ability to work in the public policy arena with multiple stakeholders in the public health sector.
